Target Practice

It is a little eery to see me all over the place, especially with that stupid grin on my face.  LOL!

Have I told you how much in love with The Big Bang Theory I am?

Okay, apparently after searching online, the game has been around awhile, but I hadn’t heard of it.  Everyone knows of rock-paper-scissors, but to add more complexity to the situation, we have:

Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock!!!!  Like Star Trek Spock!!  Ha!

So here are the rules - Scissors cuts Paper covers Rock crushes Lizard poisons Spock smashes Scissors decapitates Lizard eats Paper disproves Spock vaporizes Rock crushes Scissors.

I love it!!

I’m taking back my SOS…

Posted on October 26th, 2008 in All is here! by Ms. Kaelin

Well, I gave myself a day to figure it out.  I had a break through - of course, some of you would have thought of it earlier.  I uploaded my edited clips to youtube and then found a website that would convert the file to .mov file for me.  YIPPEE!!

But, I’m not completely satisfied.  Because I filmed it using widescreen, youtube flatten the picture.  So, the data is a little skewed when analyzing it.

So, if anyone can think of a way to fix this, I’ll offer up some extra credit.  But it’s not a BIG emergency - like I won’t need it until next year.  I’ll take what I’ve got for Thursday.

Okay, I’m sending out an SOS!

Here’s the deal - I video-taped a couple of demos in order to use them in a computer program on Thursday.  Great, no problem there.  Except, the program is very picky about the file format of the videos that you use.  I had to edit the files to get them down to the 3 seconds each, but I can’t convert them!!!

I tried downloading a couple of converters, and they seemed to have done the job.  But, they won’t open in my program or simply with Quicktime (which is what the program prefers - any file allowed through Quicktime).  You would think that would be easy.  BUT IT’S NOT!!

Ugh!!!  Somebody help me!  Please! Anyone have any ideas?

Class update

I’m feeling pretty good right now with how things are going.  Everyone seems to really understand what’s going on and is doing amazingly well with the motion equations.  There is always the few who confuse the 9.8 m/s^2 with velocity, but I’m hoping that working with the problems will clear that up.

I am still a little disappointed with the lab reports, though.  There are only a few groups (and most are in 1st period - way to go guys!) that are understanding how to analyze and write an english sentence of the relationships between the variables.  I’m not sure how to work on that - maybe a quick assignment as a refresher?  I would just hate to lose the class time on that.

Well, the second test is coming up on Friday.  I’m going to include a couple of questions referring to the labs in there to make sure that those who haven’t been towing the line or offering their fair share of the work in the lab write-ups go through the lab notes.

The AP kids are a little overwhelmed with forces - I know I give a lot of problems, but once they’ve figured out how to do them, the rest of the year will be SO much easier.  I hope they appreciate it later.  Oh and yes, I’m going to work on the shirt design with the new slogan.  I’ve got to see how much more the shirts will cost with that on there.  I want to keep the Varsity Physics, though.  I still LOVE that!

Okay, I’ve gotta get back to grading papers and writing lesson plans.  See everyone tomorrow!

Another week, another storm

I can tell that many are reading this blog ’cause someone in third period, he shall remain nameless, commented about January and how school ends for seniors.  Several people in the class quickly jumped in to correct him and scold him for saying that.  Especially after they read my rant about it here.  So it makes me feel good that you all are reading this.

So, Honors is about to take their first test.  I’m a little worried about first period.  Many in there seem to be struggling a little bit and I’m not sure what to do.  4th, 5th, and 6th seem really on the ball - or they’re really good at covering up.  The AP classes took their first test and the results were as expected.  The first one tends to be a bit of a shock for many, especially the grade they got.  For a lot of people, it’s the first time they’ll be getting a grade other than A.  I know a bunch will be close to tears and/or I’ll have several visit my room before school to find out “what they can do to improve their grade”.  Just relax…it’s okay.  Things will get better.  I swear.

Now if this darn hurrican season will just end!
